Maryland woman nabs $25K lottery win playing her license plate numbers after crash –

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Luck be a lady — who plays her license plate numbers?
A Maryland woman turned her misfortune into, well, a small fortune recently after playing some of her license plate numbers on a Pick 5 ticket following a car accident.
After the woman, who was not named in a Maryland Lottery press release, had to have her car towed from the scene of the accident, she decided to play 50-cent straight bets for the Feb. 14 evening drawing and Feb. 15 midday drawing using her vehicle as inspiration.
Her gamble paid off: The following day, the retiree checked the results using a lottery app on her phone, and learned she was $25,000 richer.
“I called my friend and said, ‘Can you believe this?’” she said, according to the press release.
Lottery officials said the winner has already put a deposit down on a new convertible.
Players have won 14 $25,000 prizes on 50-cent straight bets since the Pick 5 game launched on Feb. 7 in Maryland. Retailers that sell these $25,000-winning tickets earn a bonus of $250 from the Maryland Lottery.
